The lock is released by setting a number of manual operating keys so that a given count combination is displayed. The electronic circuit of the lock has a store in which the preselected count combination is entered, with the number entered via the keyboard (6). The number is compared with the stored number, to provide a control signal for an electric activating device (18) e.g. an electromagnet associated with the locking catch (17). Current supply elements for the lock circuit and the activating device (18) are accessible from the outside of the document case. Pref. the lock circuit is housed in a groove (1) along one of the smaller sides of the case and supported by a hinged V-shaped profile (2) which tips forward to reveal the keyboard n6) etc.
