An electrohydraulic control system for automatic braking of a vehicle such as a mining machine which is used on slopes and which prevents premature braking when going downhill comprises a microswitch (7) linked to a vehicle direction selection switch (15) to energise a solenoid (6) of a hydraulic brake release valve (5) so that the vehicle is not braked when a direction is selected unless a haulage is detected by tractive force sensors (26, 28, 30, 31, 32) or a remote control switch (14) is operated cutting off the power from electric supply (11) to the traction motor (10) and hence to the solenoid 6.
