Electronic blood pressure monitor - has pulse detector with detection oF interference due to background noise to nullify blood pressure measurement

The monitor has an inflatable cuff which is fitted around the patient's arm and which incorporates a device for detecting the pulse, with the pulse signal and the signal representing the pressure in the cuff used to obtain the relationship between the systolic and diastolic blood pressure. A foreign noise detector responds to the pulse signal being supplied by the pulse detector incorporated in the cuff and controls a display indicating the pulse signal. The foreign noise detector pref. comprises a control switch and a AND gate and it is coupled to a microprocessor which determines when the pulse signal is supplied for longer than the likely period, to cancel the blood pressure measurement and allow it to be retaken.
