Flotation process for recovery of ores, uses as floatation agent methylisobutylcarbinol xanthate (I), pref. in an amt. of 25-200 g. per tonne of ore. Process is used for recovery of galenas, blendes, chalcopyrites, molybdenite, scheelite and sulphur contg. ores. (I) acts as a foaming agent and a collecting agent for the ore. Methylisobutylcarbinol (MIBC) is highly biodegradable and is therefore not a health hazard. (I) gives better results than an equal wt. of mixt. of MIMC/alkali metal xanthate.
