Sweep or scanning unit for use in analysis or reproduction of documents as required in facimilie transmission or where both analysis and reproduction are needed simultaneously. The unit provides a high sweep rate with a low physical sweep rate of the head itself. The head (2) carries eight cells (3) set vertically apart with respect to the document and spaced according to the document line spacing. The head moves from left to right (4) across the document which is displaced (5) by a distance equivalent to eight lines at the end of each sweep. Each cell has an associated register, the whole group feeding a parallel to series converter.
