Mechanical crushing of coarse material, esp. slag contg. aluminium - for recovery of aluminium, alumina, and iron in aluminium smelting works

The slag is sprayed with water and subjected to crushing and sieving. The coarse fraction obtd. is fed through a magnetic separator and then drieid; whereas the fine fraction is also fed through a magnetic separator followed by the removal of water from which the dissolved salts are recovered. The pref. plant consists of a rotating drum divided into three zones, viz. a sieve zone (I); a crushing zone (II) contg. 3-10 metal bars; and a sieve zone (III). A perforated plate is located in the drum between zones (II,III).
