In the system sludge is sucked from the bottom of the tank into a receiver carried by the bridge. The suction inlets which collect the sludge are arranged on the circumference of a circle concentric with the tank. The dia. of the suction inlets circle is pref. equal to about one third of the dia. of the tank. The suction inlets are pref. holes in the underside of an annular pipe near the base of the tank, fixed to the bridge and with risers to the sludge receiver. Alternatively, a ring of risers arranged around and fixed to a central disc can suck directly into the receiver. Since the suction inlets rotate about the centre of the tank and follow each other in an unbroken sequence there is a minimum of disturbance of settled sludge. This results in better clarification of treated water.
