A shovel 1 is moulded in two parts from synthetic plastics material, one part 2 being a blade part and the other part 3 being a handle part, with a releasable joint 4 between the two parts 2, 3, whereby one part is detachable from the other part for stowage purposes, and attachable to the other part for use, the releasable joint 4 comprising a female, internally screw threaded socket 11 on the blade part 2 and a male, externally screw threaded spigot 16 on the handle part 3.
