The in-line switch housing for a switch mechanism, primarily an electronic light sensitive control switch. The housing has cable clamps at both ends, is three sided so that the sensor electrode unit is uppermost, and large enough to contain a control/adjustment knob. The top saddle formation unit (8) may be a transparent prism, a push switch or a sensor electrode used to operate the switch. The cable clamps (28) and switch units (40, 27) are mounted on a plate (23) which fits inside the double housing (11, 12) of two side shells, complete with bases, which have a right angled vertical centre join at the centre, where the cable enters and exits (30, 35). The two side shells are held together by shafts (24) on the saddle sensor (8, 18) unit which go through borings (25) in one shell and locate lower borings (26) in the second (12) one. The insulator sensor unit (18) is mounted in an insulating surround (17) and is coupled to the switch contacts via internal springs.
