Fungicidal timber preservative also having insecticidal activity - contg. addn. cpd. produced by heating penta:chloro:phenol and dehydro:abietyl-amine with phthalate resin
New fungicides (esp. for timber protection) also having insecticidal activity contain the prod. obtd. by heating pentachlorophenol, dehydroabietylamine and a phthalate resin to at least 60 deg.C. The new prod. is pref. produced by heating the components to 60-90 deg.C. The phthalate resin is pref. one obtd. by simultaneous esterification and polycondensn. of polyvalent alcohols (e.g. glycerol, trimethylolpropane, pentaerythritol) with polycarboxylic acids or polycarboxylic acid anhydrides (e.g. phthalic anhydride, isophthalic anhydride), opt. in the presence of naturally occurring monocarboxylic acids and/or other monocarboxylic acids. The new agents pref. additionally contain an insecticide. In comparison with the known cpd. dehydroabietylamine pentachlorophenolate, the new prod. has improved solubility in usual solvents and causes less mucous membrane irritation. The new prod. does not crystallise out on the timber surface, and less energy expenditure is required for its prodn. Based on pentachlorophenol content, the new prod. is approx. twice as active as dehydroabietylammonium pentachlorophenolate against timber-destroying fungi.
