The central heating and air conditioning system for a building uses a heat pump and a heat exchange coil buried in the ground under the building. This is also supplemented by a solar heating system using a collector panel on the roof. Apart from the refrigeration circuit, the system uses water as a heat exchange medium, and this can be used to transfer heat between the heat sources including heat from the building itself, and for a hot water supply. An anti freeze substance can be added to the water. To control loss of heat between summer and winter coditions, a motorised control valve is operated by a programmed device. The circuit also uses exhaust and extraction fans at an upper level and an under floor heating coil for an intermediate floor.
