AGENT FOR CONTROLLING SEDENTARY MARINE LIFE

PURPOSE:To prepare the titled agent capable of remarkably controlling the growth of sedentary marine life in an industrial cooling water system or on the cultivation fish net or rope, etc., by using beta-hydroxy-substituted aliphatic amine ethylene oxide or its acid addition salt as an active component. CONSTITUTION:The titled controlling agent is obtained by using one or more compounds selected from beta-hydroxy-substituted aliphatic amine ethylene oxide adduct of formula I [R is 8-28C alkyl or alkenyl; R' is group of formula II (m+n is 1-20) or group of formula III (x+y+z is 1-20)], e.g. beta-hydroxydecylamine ethylene oxide adduct, beta-hydroxydodecylamine ethylene oxide adduct, etc., and its acid addition salts, as active components. The compound of formula I, which is hitherto been used as a surface active agent, is utilized as an agent for the control of sedentary marine life such as hard-shelled mussel, barnacle, hydrozoa, sea moss, ascidian, etc.
