PURPOSE:To wash a hollow filter material and wash off an adhered solid component without using a washing liquid by a method wherein a liquid to be treated is filtered under pressure by a hollow filter material and, thereafter, compressed air is sent into the filter material immersed in the liquid to be treated as well as air is diffused to a surface of the filter material from a diffuser pipe. CONSTITUTION:A liquid to be treated is sent into a container 1 under pressure by a pump 5 to filter out a solid component by a filter material 7A and a filtrate is flowed into the filter material 7A and sent into a rotary shaft 7 from an inner pore 8A. Next, the filtrate in the shaft 7 is flowed into a gap 12 between the shaft 7 and an outer cylinder 11 from an outer pore 8B and, thereafter, discharged from a pipe 13A. Then, after a filtering process is completed, the liquid to be treated is left as it stands in the container 1 to immerse the filter material 7A in the liquid to be treated. Then, compressed air is sent into the shaft 7 through the gap 12 and the outer pore 8B and flowed into the filter material 7A from the inner pore 8A. During this time, the shaft 7 is rotated as well as the compressed air is discharged under pressure toward an outside of the filter material 7A to eliminate clogging thereof and the solid component is peeled. Further, the peeling of said solid component is promoted by air diffused from an air diffuser pipe 21.
