A water-dilutable wood preservative concentrate which is substantially free from inorganic salts or pigments comprises, by weight, from 5 to 50% of an organic water- insoluble solvent containing insecticide and/or fungicide dissolved therein, from 88 to 15% of a water-dilutable aqueous plastics dispersion, comprising a polymer or copolymer of a vinyl ester, an acrylic acid ester and/or methacrylic acid ester and having a solids content of from 35 to 65%, from 0 to 2% of emulsifier, protective colloid or wetting agent, from 0 to 20% of water and from 5 to 15% of a drying oil, preferably one of vegetable origin, and/or a water- dilutable alkyd resin dissolved in an organic water-soluble solvent. The concentrate may be diluted with water to form a ready-to-use composition, the ratio of concentrate water being 1 : 1 to 1 : 4. A process for preparing the concentrate is disclosed by treating water-insoluble insecticide and/or fungicide in the organic water-insoluble solvent at a temperature of -5 DEG C., to +80 DEG C., and under a pressure of 0.5332 to 1.1332 bars until a solution is formed which is subsequently emulsified in the aqueous plastics dispersion at a temperature below 50 DEG C.
