A compisite, in-line fitting for a water pipe line is a monobloc assembly comprising a core on which are mounted a pressure reducing valve, a treatment element, an air lock, a non-return valve and an indicator of pressure drop. The core contains a by-pass valve which is operable from the outside of the core. The by-pass valve can be set in either of two positions, i.e. 1. for water to flow through the treatment element. 2. For water to by-pass the treatment element. In setting the by-pass valve for water to by-pass the treatment element this simultaneously vents the treatment element to atmos. Flow through the fitting remains uninterrupted as the by-pass valve setting is changed. The treatment element pref. comprises a transparent, plastic bowl contg. a filter element leading into a treatment reagent. The bowl should be easily removable from the core for renewal of filter element and reagent.
