Very precise copying of a model is made possible by milling machine control by determining the actual feeler position in at least two dimensions and by using this information for guiding the milling cutters. The high precision is achieved by numerical control of the speed of the cutter advance according to the model contour. A feeler sledge (3) with feeler (5) moves over the model contour (2) through a distance (A) corresponding to the distance (a) from a fixed reference line. The differential distance (a-A) is used for control data.
