The cleaning and descaling of extruded profiles is carried out by pressurised water jets, impinging on hot, extruded surface during their movement. It is partic. intended for removing lubricant remaining after extrusion. A blasting substance is admixed to the water jet prior to its impinging on the extruded surface. The water jet-blasting substance mixture is directed onto the hot surface at an acute angle of 30-70 deg. Sand may be used as admixture and may be added in the water jet by pressurised air.
