Courtyards, industrial or exhibition halls, or hangars with underfloor cables and other service ducts are paved by a system using suitable arrangement. A flat, concrete base surface (1) is covered by a resilient layer (2). Cables and service ducts are laid on this in straight lines or at orthogonal orientations. Paving stones (3), with straight and/or right-angled recesses (4,14) on their underside, are set in position on the resilient layer which can be a plastics or rubber mat. The stones can be positioned between elongated bars (10) in the resilient/layer. They may be made of concrete with or without ceramic inlay.
