Integral lettering in tyre sidewalls - where negatively patterned rubber strip receives contrasting lettering before being vulcanised with tyre

Lettering strips for tyre sidewalls are produced, using lettering in a colour contrasting with their background and with the lettering surface in the same plane as surrounding material. A rubber strip, for background to the lettering, is vulcanised first in a separate mould whose surface has the required lettering in relief, vulcanised or unvulcanised rubber lettering is placed in the corresponding moulded impressions, the strip so produced is applied to the tyre sidewall, and the latter is then vulcanised. Simplified process gives lettering having smooth surface.
