A fluid level indicator monitors the closure of fluid (16) in a reservoir (18). The indicator communicates with the fluid along a conduit (10) and an intermediate mechanism (12) affording electromagnetically selectable communication of the indicator to atmosphere through valve (36) or the reservoir through valve (38). The indicator (14) comprises a 'U' shaped tube containing a barometric fluid the level of which one arm (86) of the tube may be viewed through a window. The tube is designed to permit any orientation of the monometric tube without incurring loss of barometric fluid by means of internally projecting ground tubes (92) and a gravity actuated ball valve (98).
