Propulsion for boat using Magnus effect on wind turbine - uses vertical axis Savonius or Darrius rotor wind turbines mounted on masts or stays of boat to provide propulsive force
The system uses the Magnus effect on a vertical axis wind turbine which is mounted on the mast or the mast stays of a boat. The wind turbine can have a Savonius or Darrius type rotor which may also be used for generation of electricity. Following the wind directions, the sense of rotation of the turbine may be inverted under mechanical or electrical power, and a propulsive force obtained. The regulation of the force can be by altering the angle of attack of the blades, by aerodynamic, mechanical, magnetic or other braking, or by variation of the height of the blades by enclosing one set in another.
