PRE-TREATMENT PROCESS FOR ENZYMATIC TREATMENT OF BIOMASS

PURPOSE:To improve the decomposability of a biomass with cellulase, by cutting and crushing the biomass to specific size, and cooking in a specific amount of an aqueous solution of alkali and alkali sulfide. CONSTITUTION:The biomass such as bagasse, beech wood, white birch wood, corncob, etc. is cut and crushed to 10-150mesh, and cooked in an aqueous solution of an alkali and an alkali sulfide. The amount of the solution is 4-10pts.wt. per 1 pt. of the biomass, the weight ratio of alkali to biomass is 9-30%, and that of alkali sulfide to biomass is 3-15%. The alkali is KOH, NaOH, or NH3, and the alkali sulfide is e.g. Na2S, K2S, KHS, (NH4)2S, etc. The cooking is carried out at 90-210 deg.C for 0.25-5hr.
