The invention relates to a tool for machining surfaces of cast iron which contains carbon and has been subjected beforehand to electrochemical surface erosion, in particular for machining the cylinder bores of internal combustion engines, with at least one strip which can be pressed with a friction surface against the surface to be machined and can be moved relative to this surface. To obtain tribulogically improved surfaces, the strip is designed as a friction-cladding strip, the friction surface of which is provided with sharp-edged grooves (38) and/or pores (36) at an angle to the direction of movement. To machine cylindrical bores, the friction-cladding strips can be fastened to strip carriers which are guided in a radially adjustable manner via several guide bolts in corresponding bores of a tool head, in which arrangement the guide bolts can be acted upon by hydraulic fluid under pressure. The hydraulic fluid can at the same time serve as flushing fluid through the provision of appropriate passages.
