In a process for the selective precipitation of calcium ions from crude brines, sodium hydrogen carbonate is added, at a preferred temperature of 50 to 100 DEG C, to the solution in an amount corresponding to 0.9 to 1.5 times the stoichiometric amount, relative to the calcium ion concentration; the addition of solid calcium carbonate in an amount of 0 to 15 % by weight, preferably 5 to 10 % by weight, is proposed in conjunction in order to carry out the process effectively.
