Laminar embedding units formed from a multiplicity of paving stones are employed for the mechanised or mechanical embedding of said stones. These units are seized by appropriate clamping components of an embedding device and deposited at the installation site. The paving stones belonging to the embedding unit are not to be connected to one another. The present embedding units consist of stone units (17, 18) which are larger than paving stones and ensure secure fixing, by virtue of a particular arrangement inside the embedding unit, through transverse clamping forces of clamping jaws or the like.
