The illuminated column is made up from a number of stacked units built on a base. Each unit includes an electric light bulb inside a transparent cylinder. Each cylinder is closed by a solid opaque cover which serves as the support for the light bulb. Electrical conducting strips extend down each unit parallel to its axis, and form an elastic connection between the lamp wires in the unit and terminals in the base. Each signal unit is rotated by a certain angle relative to the previous one to allow free passage of the conducting strips. The assembly may be used to carry a number of signalling lights indicating the state of automatic machinery in a workshop.
