PURPOSE:To remove salt from sea water and to obtain water having good quality by providng a sand separator, a sterilizer, a filter device for a pretreatment, a reverse osmosis type module for applying pressure higher than osmotic pressure and a salinometer. CONSTITUTION:Sea water is supplied through a strainer 1 and a water feed pipe 2 by a volute pump 3 to a sand separator 6, where the sand, etc. in the sea water are removed by centrifugal sepn. The sea water is then fed through a pipe 8 into a sterilizer 10, where chlorine is electrolyzed and is mixed with the sea water to sterilize the sea water. The sterilized sea water is supplied to a filter device 12 for a pretreatment by which dust, etc. are filtered out. The filtered sea water is supplied through a pipe 15 to a high pressure pump 16, by which the pressurized sea water is forced into a reverse osmosis type module 18. The sea water permeates reverse the semipermeable membrane having membrane holes 3Angstrom by which the salt and remaining bacteria are removed and potable water is produced. The potable water is fed to a salt checking tank 21 and to a storage tank 24 where the water is stored as potable water.
