The device consists of a measuring head (6, 7) which is in the rock offset flush with the base area of the rock cavity and serves to accommodate a measuring device consisting of a transmitter part (30) and recording part (20). The transmitting part (30) comprises a multiplex potentiometer (31) which is coupled by means of a permanent magnet to the free end of a rock anchor, and an encoder (33) for the unique identification of each measuring point. The recording part (20) has an analog-to-digital converter (21), a computer (23) and a clock-pulse generator (24) with a programmable time generator, as well as a power supply (25). The recording part (20) can be isolated from the transmitting part (30) by means of a plug part (40), and can be connected to a desk computer (60) for evaluating the measured rock displacement. Consequently, there is no longer a need for specially trained people to undertake periodic readings of the displacements, but it is possible for several hundred measurements to be carried out automatically, the time base being freely programmable, so that when tunnelling it is possible to carry out the measurements firstly in rapid sequence and later at larger intervals, without disturbing the normal operation of the works with scaffolding, ladders or the like for taking readings.
