In the purification of flue gases by dry chemisorption using alkali metal compounds or alkaline earth metal compounds, the degree of adsorption is increased by admixing monocarboxylic or polycarboxylic acids and/or salts thereof to the alkali metal compounds or alkaline earth metal compounds. A further improvement is achieved by additionally injecting this mixture in the dissolved or dry state into the combustion chamber or by adding it to the fuel.
