The invention relates to a device 100 for preventing unintentional jack-knifing and for improving the lateral driving stability in critical road and driving conditions, in semitrailer units, articulated buses or vehicles with a trailing vehicle part. The device is composed of a supporting device (140) which connects the two vehicle parts (1, 2) which are coupled swivellably to one another via a pivot joint (3), and of a throughput limiting device (150) with which an oversteer and an uncontrolled swivelling of the rear vehicle part in each case of an articulated vehicle composed of two vehicle parts which are connected to one another via a pivot joint, are prevented and with which the security against jack-knifing and the lateral driving stability of such vehicles are increased. Moreover, a device for articulated vehicles has been provided, the locking action of which comes into effect independently of the reaction of the driver and of the particular driving conditions, the device not preventing the articulated vehicle from extending after the locking action has come into effect, not having negative reactions on the driving behaviour and in which the impetus for initiating a locking of the joint is only dependent on a measuring and control variable (Fig. 1).
