Intended for producing a batik design on cloth (1) by selective application of wax followed by dyeing after which the wax is removed. - Prior to the wax application, the desired pattern (A) of accompanying colours is printed on the cloth after which the wax to produce the batik effect on subsequent dyeing is applied with reference to this pattern. Wax is pref.applied via nozzles (7) of which the movements (on slide carriages 8,9) may be controlled by a servo unit responding to signals from a micro-processor scanning the image of a video camera aimed at the pre-printed pattern.
