A machine for peeling vegetables, fruit, etc. which is driven by a simple water turbine using energy provided by water pressure, e.g. from a mains tap. The machine is of the type comprising a vertical cylindrical bowl contg. a coaxial, horizontal, rotary disc of moulded plastic in the lower part of the bowl. The underside of the disc has impeller blades which are struck by a jet of water from a nozzle passed through the wall of the bowl. - The disc now has fitted on its upper surface, or may itself serve as, a horizontal, circular peeling plate. Slots are formed right through the plate to allow peeling etc. to pass into the sump below the moulded disc. Each of the slots has an edge formed with a cutting lip to peel prod. supported on the rotating peeling plate. - Opt. the moulded disc may be formed as a peeling plate. Alternatively, a metal peeling plate can be fastened on top of a simplified plastic disc. The pressurised water nozzle is pref. removably fitted into a bayonet type coupling in the lower part of the bowl.
