The outfeed rolls 5 and 6 of a towel dispenser are drivingly connected to the infeed rolls 14 and 15 such that towel is fed back into the dispenser at a greater rate than it is fed out. This arrangement enables slack caused for example by stretching of the towel to be taken up. A device arranged to interrupt drive at the infeed rolls comprises a cranked lever 11 pivotally mounted on the dispenser; one arm of the lever supporting a guide roller which engages the open reach of the towel 9 and the other arm supporting infeed roll 15. Excess tension in the exposed reach of the towel causes the lever 11 to pivot such that infeed roll 15 is moved away from infeed roll 14 thereby interrupting feed of towel back into the dispenser. Additionally, the outfeed rolls 5, 6 lock on delivery of a predetermined length of towel but excess pull results in further towel feed by means of an override clutch (not shown). IMAGE
