In a cutting and feeding device for a drawn machine or a machine provided for three-point mounting on the tractor, for the harvesting of maize or suchlike stalk crops, the cutting and feeding device is formed from a self-controlling chain system. The chain system has a plurality of countercutters, holding fingers and abutments, which cooperate with a fixedly arranged cutting knife in such a way that the crop can be cut off at any point of the working range of the cutting knife and can be fed, in a vertical position or in a position inclined counter to the conveying direction, to a following processing device, being released at the same time.
