Lubricating oil prodn. by solvent extraction - using mixt. of DMSO and/or aniline and DMF

Solvent extraction in the mfr. of lubricating oils is carried out using a mixt. of (a) dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) and/or aniline, and (b) dimethylformamide (DMF). The (a):(b) vol. ratio can be 10:90 to 90:10, esp. 20:80 to 50:50 when (a) is DMSO or 25;75 to 70:30 when (a) is aniline. Extraction is pref. effected at 60-130 deg.C with a solvent/feed ratio of 1-10:1. Compared with furfural, the solvents give higher yields of raffinates, with a higher VI ising smaller amts. of solvent.
