In the prodn. of crosslinkable vinyl (co) polymers by grafting a hydrolysable silane cpd (I), in which a (co) polymer (II) capable of generation of radicals by mechanical treatment, is mechanically treated in presence of (I), the improvement is as follows. - A second (co) polymer (III) is added to (II), (III) being non susceptible to give radicals by mechanical treatment. The mixt. is than mechanically treated in the presence of (I) under conditions promoting a reaction of propagation of radicals from (II) to (III). - Pref. the mechanical treatment is effected under conditions such that the interval temp. of the polymeric compsn. exceeds the degradation temp. of (II).
