1405355 Hair dyeing compositions BRISTOL-MYERS CO 8 Aug 1973 [9 Aug 1972] 37593/73 Heading D1B Hair dyeing and conditioning compositions comprise (a) a nitro dye, preferably a nitroaminobenzene dye (b) a quaternary ammonium compound of formula: in which RSP1/SP RSP2/SP and RSP3/SP are C 1 to C 3 alkyl groups, R is a long chain hydrocarbon group having 12 to 24 carbon atoms, X is an anion, (c) an N-oxyalkylated fatty acid amide of formula: in, which R 4 is a long chain hydrocarbon group having 12 to 24 carbon atoms, RSP5/SP is hydrogen of (A'-o) x H in which A and A' are the same or different divalent alkylene radicals having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, X and Y are the same or different whole numbers 1 to 100. Preferably the dye is present in amounts of 0.01% to 3.0% by weight, 0.1% to 3.0% of quaternary ammonium compound and 0.2% to 3.5% of fatty acid amide. The quaternary amine compounds act as hair detangler. The above compositions may be employed as aqueous compositions which may be alkaline, neutral or acidic and may contain organic solvent e.g. ethanol.
