Commercial plant cultivating method - uses stackable crates, with ventilating air gaps between crate base and top

Stackable crates are used in a system for cultivating individual plants, which are planted in clumps of soil. The clumps of soil are placed in tapered depressions in trays. Between openings in the crate bottom and the surface on which the crates stand, ventilating air is circulated to inhibit root growth below the tray bottom. The rectangular crates have two end walls (1) and two side walls (2). The height of the side walls is approx. half that of the end walls. The walls have inwardly facing flanges (3,4) in which the loose trays fit with downwards, inwards tapering depressions (6) in which soil clumps (7) are placed.
