A B S T R A C TMethod of loading and/or transferring environmentallyharmful materials in shallow-water and mudland regionsand islands suitable therefor.Environmentally harmful liquid or solid materials,especially crude oil of offshore oil fields in mud-land and shallow-water regions are loaded and trans-ferred in an environmentally safe manner in lockablebasins. For performing the method according to theinvention there are provided artificial islands in-cluding one or a plurality of basins lockable withbarrier means, said basins being in particularequipped with counter-current systems and cleaningequipment. These artificial islands may at the sametime be used for crude oil recovery, treatment, sto-ring and processing of the offshore oil field.
