1391738 Moulding confectionary NID PTY Ltd 30 March 1973 [28 April 1972] 15563/73 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] A process for removing confectionery by crusted laqueur centres for chocolates from starch powder moulds contained in trays 10a-10d comprises inverting a loaded tray whilst keeping its contents undisturbed, removing the inverted tray from its contents, applying air jets to fluidize the powder moulds and extracting at least part of the fluidized powder by entrainment in an air stream. Apparatus for the process may comprise a reciprocable conveyer 14 provided with pivotable pawls 26 for feeding loaded trays to a rotatable S-shaped tray inverter 11 apivotable pick-up device 12 which removes the inverted tray from its contents after the loaded inverted tray has been pushed from the inverter on to a wire mesh belt conveyer 54 by spring-loaded, over-centre pawls 27 on the feed conveyer, one or more rotatable devices 82 (see also Figs. 11, 12) provided with air jets for fluidizing the powder moulds and a powder collector comprising an extraction hood 80 and shroud 88 through which an air stream is passed to entrain the powder for recycling. The contents may be retained within a tray as it is inverted by either a wire lid applied upstream of the inverter 11 or by a closure plate 40 on the inverter 11. The tray, e.g. 10b Fig. 2 (Figs. 7, 8) may be urged against the closure plate 40 as it is inverted by a stationary cam 46 acting on leaf springs 45 connected to guides 42 supporting the tray in the inverter 11. The tray pick-up device 12 comprises a pair of arms 58 provided with pairs of cheek plates 65 (64, Figs. 5, 6) for gripping an opposed pair of tray edges, e.g. 10a, Fig. 2. The plates 65 (64) are actuated when overcentre toggle devices strike abutments, e.g. 70 provided at the limits of the travel of the device 12. Each toggle device includes a pair of bellcranks 60, 61 interconnected by a spring-loaded telescopic strut 67 (see also Fig. 5 and engaging pivot pins 63, 65 interconnecting a pair of cheek plates 65 (64). The apparatus is driven by a reciprocating con-rod 15, a crank 14 and a chain 16, the intermittent one-way drive for the inverter 11 being provided by a clutch 47 (see also Figs. 7, 8) comprising a driving element (48) fixed to a sprocket 21 and a driven element fixed to the shaft 37 of the inverter 11 and locked against rotation in one sense, e.g. anticlockwise by spring-loaded sprogs (50, 51) which can be released by a dog (52) on the driving element 48 for rotation in the opposite sense, e.g. clockwise. The inverter 11 may be provided with a rubber lip 41.
