Method for the mass spectrometric sequence analysis of an oligoribonucleotide or oligodeoxyribonucleotide, characterized in that (a) the unprotected nucleotide is subjected to mass spectrometry (b) the negative ions are recorded, and (c1) the difference in mass between successive 5'-P ions by weight and/or (c2) the difference in mass between successive 3'-P ions by weight is determined, and (d) the successive mass differences that have been determined are assigned to the bases.
