It has been proposed to use ceramicising supports for the preparation of catalysts. The catalyst body consists of flotation wastes arising during coal-washing in coal mining as a waste product, 2-10% of coal dust also being additionally admixed to the flotation waste in order to improve the porosity of the catalyst body. It has now been found according to the invention that the addition of coal dust to the ceramicising flotation wastes can be increased to such an extent that a porous body can be produced which is outstandingly suitable for making filter candles for precipitating dust, with a simultaneous catalyst activity. According to the invention, it is therefore proposed that washing wastes and/or flotation wastes are moulded by admixture of coal dust and/or sodium metasilicate to give filter candles or filtration plates or filtration bodies, and ceramicised.
