An endless conveyor belt (1) having a large number of receptacles (2) for sample vessels (3) is used as a sample store from which samples are selectively taken, are identified in an identification device (8) and, by means of a further conveying device, are fed forward to a two-sample changer (11) in which one sample is always in the measuring position and the other sample in the preliminary position. The appliance is preferably used in X-ray spectrometric routine analysis. IMAGE
