PURPOSE:To produce a sectorial metallic wire which has waterproofness in the stage of assembly and has an exact shape by rolling sectorial trisected pieces of a metallic pressure resistant layer to protect an optical fiber by sectorial calibers with matte surfaces constituted of the 1st and 2nd working rolls. CONSTITUTION:A submarine optical cable is protected with the metallic pressure resistant layer 2 combined with the sectorial trisected pieces 2a, 2b, 2c via a waterproof compd. 3 and is further enclosed on the outside thereof of the compd. 3, tensile wire 4, metallic tube 5 and plastic insulating layer. The sectorial trisected pieces 2a, 2b, 2c are rolled and worked by a forming passage 14 formed of the 1st working roll 10 constituting a recessed peripheral surface 16 and a tapered peripheral surface 15 and the 2nd working roll 11 constituting a projecting peripheral surface 18 and a tapered peripheral surface 18A. The 2nd working roll 11 has the matte working surface 20. The pieces 13A are brought into tight contact with each other by the matte surfaces 21 in a manner so as to hardly generate the contact deviation from each other.
