Low-temperature dyeing process for wool fibres

Using conventional methods it is not possible to dye wool at below 80 DEG C with reactive dyes in medium and deep shades so that the resulting dyeings have satisfactory fastness properties. However, to make such a dyeing process available even for use in domestic washing machines it must be possible to dye at even lower temperatures. It has now been found that standard wool fibre material can be dyed level and fast with reactive dyes at between 55 and 70 DEG C by adding from 4 to 10% of an inorganic or organic acid, i.e. at pH 1.8-3.5, preferably pH 2.4-3.
