Matted glass, a method for producing frosted glass, photocell with such a pane of glass and a method for the production of such a cell

Glass is matted by surface of overlapping etch pits of polyhedral of such small area that at least 30% of normally incident visible light is diffusely transmitted; total luminous transmittance is at least TT-10 and pref. at least TT-5, where TT is transmittance before etching. Prepn. is by etching with soln. of F-salt to form F-contg. crystals which are removed to expose pits. Glass is pref. etched on one face only. Photo-voltaic cell is coated with (1) conductive layer which is light transmi-ting, (2) photo-active layer and (3) 2nd conductive layer. Pref. layers are (1) doped tin oxide, (2) amorphous Si and (3) light reflecting material which is esp. Al; photo-active material (2) is pref. blue sensitive layer which is over-coated with red sensitive layer.
