PURPOSE:To control soil blight caused by Pseudomonas solanacerum, e.g. bacterial wilt of tomato, by immersing seedling of a solanaceous vegetable in a suspension of living non-pathogenic cell or killed cell belonging to Pseudomonas glumae. CONSTITUTION:A seedling of tomato of 10-20 days after seeding is immersed in a suspension of living cell or killed cell of a non-pathogenic microbial strain belonging to Pseudomonas glumae (e.g. Pseudomonas glumae KuN 750-SR strain which is a novel substance) having a cell concentration of 104-106cfu/ml. The immersion is carried out at normal temperature for 12-72hr. The treated seedling is planted on soil and cultured to control the soil blight of solanaceous vegetables caused by Pseudomonas solanacerum such as bacterial wilt of tomato and damping-off of tobacco. The above novel substance can be produced by the mutagenic treatment of Pseudomonas glumae N750 strain with N-methyl-N'- nitronitrosoguanidine.
