PURPOSE:A fibrous material of new type, having fibers mostly with noncircular cross section, the majority thereof in the side-by-side composite type, and at least one of the number, shape and size of the blocks being different, and obtainable at a low cost. CONSTITUTION:A fibrous material having 90% or more fibers with a noncircular cross section, and 50% or more fibers having unequal shape or size thereof. 50% or more fibers have two or more blocks in which at least part of two or more different fiber-forming plymeric phases are joined in the side-by-side type in such a state as to expose to the fibrous peripheral surfaces in the cross section perpendicular to the fibrous axis, and at least one of the number, shape and size of the blocks is nonuniform among the individual fibers. The fibrous material is obtained by extruding a macroblended melt having many continuous boundary lines between the different polymeric melt phases through a mesh- like spinneret.
