DEVICE FOR REPRESENTING LINEAR GRAPHIC BY POLYGONAL LINE

PURPOSE:To generate the polygonal line of high quality by deciding an optimum threshold based on the total length of a point string to be thinned and the length of a segment connecting both ends of the point string and executing a line-folding processing. CONSTITUTION:A titled device is provided with a characteristic extraction mechanic part 3 detecting a characteristic point with using a prescribed mask, a line tracking mechanic part 5 tracking the characteristic point detected by the characteristic extraction mechanic part 3 and storing a bit of distance information on the characteristic point to a point counter 6, an approximate precision deciding mechanic part 8 deciding approximate precision based on information stored in the point counter 6 and the point table 7, and a distance calculation mechanic part 9 calculating a distance on the point string registered in the point table 7. A repeating processing is sequentially executed until a result for which the distance calculation mechanic part 9 has distance-calculated becomes smaller than the approximate precision decided by the approximate precision deciding mechanic part 8 to output the result. Thus, the polygonal line of high quality can be obtained.
