PURPOSE:To enable the easy sepn. of a fluid carrier and sludge flocs and to attain high BOD removing efficiency by packing the fluid carrier having the specified specific gravity in wet base to a fluid area volume except a settling area at a specific volume ratio and forming circulating flow to the respective fluid areas. CONSTITUTION:An outflow blocking plate 4 which segments the fluid carrier settling area C and an underwater intermediate partition plate 3 which is suspended in water in parallel with the plate 4 and segments an ascending fluid area A and descending fluid area B of approximately the same volume on both sides thereof are provided between the opposed wall surfaces in a square tank 1. A waste water introducing pipe 6 having an open end 6a and an air diffusion plate 5 for aeration are disposed to the area A and a discharge pipe 8 opened to the water surface is connected to the area C. The fluid carrier having the specific gravity in wet base larger than 1 is packed to the fluid area volume except the area C at 10-30vol% to form the circulating flow in the respective fluid areas. As a result, the outflow and deposition of the fluid carrier are obviated and the sepn. of the fluid carrier and the sludge flocs is easy. The high BOD removing efficiency is thus obtd.
